What are the best and worst college fight songs? Or your favorite and least fav?

Best and worst fight songsI pretty much agree with the above choices; however, I tend to categoriZe college marches as three-strain marches and 2-strain marches. I give the top nod without qualification to "The Victors", which also received Sousa's "imprimatur". "On Wisconsin" and "Go U Northwestern" take up the #2 and #3 spots among 3-strain marches. Among 2-strain marches the "Notre Dame Victory" and "Spartan Fight Song" (MSU) stand head-and-shoulders above anything else in existence. As to the worst fight song around, I fully agree with the above comment that "Fight On" (USC) is the most insipid and nausiatingly repetitious of all the major college fight songs, and it is not in the least enhanced by the change of key toward the end.

Best and worst fight songsMICHIGAN. hands down. "Hail to the Victors" is the BEST FIGHT SONG in the land.
I will give ohio state some credit for coming up with the "we dont give a damn for the whole state of michigan" song though, pretty clever and a catchy tune as well...nothing worse for a wolverine than getting that song stuck in your head if only for a moment, well nothing worse except maybe hearing that song after the big game... ever since "that which we will not speak of in a sweater vest" showed up... |

Best and worst fight songs"On Wisconsin" is the best. It is underrated. The worst is "Rocky Top" I was at the outback bowl last year and got so sick of the "Rock Top" song. Texas fight song "Texas Fight" is a close second. Thanks for agreeing with me on "On Wisconsin" |

Best and worst fight songsHail to the victors....and the fact that they refer to their wolverines as "the best team in the west" tells you how timeless it is. vikings68, Nebraskas fight song is called "there is no place like Nebraskla" and trust me, everyone else knows it. My favorite line from it goes "where the girls are so fair and the boys are so square". My guess is you have to appreciate the hospitality of Nebraskans to appreciate the school, the stadium, the atmosphere and the tradition. Thanks again LL. I've also been fond of Tennessee's fight song. Rocky top says it all. I have a love of music, but there are several fight songs that seem to have been scribbled between classes by scolded classmates. Too many to list one. |

Best and worst fight songsI'm not a fan of either school, but Notre Dame's fight song and Michigan's Hail to the Victor's send chills up my spine on a cold fall afternoon. Neither team does very well now so its probably not played as much. If anyone has been to a USC game their fight song is played on every down and it gets so old. They have a really cool band though and they play very well. But every play, come on! I love Rise and Shout the Cougars are out as well. My Mom would use that to wake me up for school when I was young before I knew who BYU was. It would be my favorite for that and other reasons. |

Best and worst fight songsI am a little bit partial to the Oklahoma fight song being a Sooner Football fan... there are some of the songs that are heard over and over and become part of college football Saturday such as Michigan and Notre Dame, moving down here to Florida, I have been privy to Seminole and Gators games and have enjoyed their passion...
As for the not so good... two jump out... having gone to Pitt, grant it some time ago, the idea of your song singling out another school Penn State (we don't play them any more) seems a bit absurd, but the worst one... would have to be UNLV... especially at basketball, the idea of the Thomas and Mack being the Shark Tank left when Jerry Tarkanian left... no need for the Jaws theme, no need for the shark bite imitation... he is gone... move on... and then the song, ended with Go Fight Win??? come on...

Best and worst fight songsClemson has the "Tiger Rag ' , which ironically was also the name of Bowden's offensive playbook the last few games.... The song is phenominal by the way. It is certainly top ten and unlike the Tigers deserves to be there. |

1. Michigan- The only reason I watch the Rose parade when Michigan is in the Rose Bowl.
2. Minnesota- Born there, "nuff said.
3. Any Service Academy fight song. Thank you All!
Worst fight songs:
1. Wyoming- Ragtime Cowboy Joe? Just play Cotton-eyed Joe.
2. Nebraska- Do they have one? That is one stadium I have never heard the band on T.V. Don't say the fans are that loud either.
